Screen 스크린, 2024
『스크린』(2024)은 일상적으로 경험하는 재난의 무감각함, 무력함에 대해서 담은 작업이다. 우리는 매일같이 스크린을 통해 다른 장소들에서 벌어지고 있는 재난을 보고, 간단히 창을 닫는다. 아무리 끔찍한 재난, 전쟁, 기후 위기 뉴스를 보더라도 스크린 창을 닫는 간단한 행위로 그들과 단절되고, 때로는 아무것도 할 수 없음에 무력감을 느끼게 된다.
영상은 전시장의 창문을 스크린에 비유하여 실제 장소에 가상적 시공간의 레이어를 더한다. 시공간의 복제과정에서 나타나는 빈틈과 울퉁불퉁함을 강조하며 가상과 현실 사이의 매끄러운 이동에서 과속방지턱을 만들어낸다. 어떤 위치에 서 있으면 현실공간과 스크린의 벽모서리가 맞지만 단 한발자국만 이동해도 모든 코너는 어그러지게 된다.
한편 스크린 속 창문 밖에는 폭우가 내리고 있다. 실제공간을 복제하는 과정에서 나타난 울퉁불퉁한 표면들의 강조, 이질적인 빗소리는 가상과 현실에 머물러 있는 신체 안에서 역설적 감각을 느끼게 유도한다. 그리고 그 두 공간 사이를 가로지르는 것은 몸이 투명한 물살이다.
함께 설치되는 프로젝션 영상은 전시장의 벽과 바닥을 가로지르며 상영되는데, 물의 입자를 가상공간 속에서 시뮬레이션함으로써 통제할 수 없는 물의 우발성과 흐름, 연결을 의미한다.
『Screen』(2024) is a work about the insensitivity and helplessness of disasters experienced on a daily basis. Every day, we see disasters unfolding in different places on our screens and simply close the window. No matter how terrible the news about disasters, wars, or climate crises we see, the simple act of closing the screen disconnects us from them, and sometimes makes us feel helpless because we cannot do anything.
The video compares the exhibition hall windows to a screen, adding a layer of virtual space and time to the actual place. It emphasizes the gaps and bumps that appear in the replication process of space and time, creating a speed bump in the smooth movement between virtuality and reality. When you stand in a certain position, the edges of the wall in real space and the screen are aligned, but if you move just one step, all the corners become misaligned.
Meanwhile, heavy rain is falling outside the screen window. The emphasis on uneven surfaces and the heterogeneous sound of rain that appear in the process of duplicating real space induce a paradoxical sensation within a body that remains both virtual and real. And what passes between the two spaces is a transparent water current.
The projection video installed together is shown across the walls and floor of the exhibition hall, and by simulating water particles in a virtual space, it symbolizes the uncontrollable contingency, flow, and connection of water.
